Migraine Research

Two main clinical trials have paved the way for green light therapy as a breakthrough migraine treatment.

The first study was published in 2016 in the well-known academic journal of neurology "Brain." Many people who suffer from migraines are very sensitive to light during migraine episodes, so a group of neuroscientists from Harvard University devised a research study to evaluate the degree to which different colors of light affected people with migraines. An unexpected and fortuitous finding during the study was that for a number of patients, their migraine pain actually decreased when they were exposed exclusively to green light. This interesting finding was noted in their published paper as an area for future research. The original publication in its entirety can be read here:

Four years later, another group of medical researchers built on the previous research to examine the effects of using green light specifically as a therapy for migraines. They recruited migraine patients to expose themselves to green light for at least one hour a day at the same time each day, and they recorded the frequency and severity of their migraine episodes before and after starting the green light therapy. Their findings were extremely promising. Of the 22 chronic migraine patients enrolled in the study, their number of headache days per month decreased from an average of 22.3 headache days per month down to only 9.4 headache days per month after 10 weeks of daily green light therapy!

The study showed statistically significant findings indicating that consistent green light therapy shows promise as an alternative or complementary therapy for the treatment of migraines. The full research study can be read here:

Additionally, those who are considering green light therapy as a treatment for migraines may also find the following article of interest, which interviews one of the lead authors of the study above:

While there are other green light products on the market targeted toward migraine patients, they are prohibitively expensive. Luvidapro set out to create a more affordable product to help chronic migraine sufferers have an opportunity to try this alternative therapy. Our product features flicker-free LED technology that outputs pure green light, replicating the methodology utilized in the studies.
